Re: Notice of an In-Person Extraordinary General Meeting on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 6:30 pm

This is to provide notice of the in-person Extraordinary General Meeting Thursday July 21, 2022 at 6:30 pm located at West Point Grey Community Centre at Aberthau, 4397 West 2nd Avenue Vancouver, B.C. V6R 1K4

The Purpose of the meeting is to consider a Special Resolution to amend the WPGCCA Bylaws linked HERE and Consolidation linked HERE.

These amendments are to allow ongoing electronic meetings post COVID-19 and to reduce the meeting quorum form 30 to 20 members in good standing.

Guest Presentation: Friends of Point Grey Village will provide an update on the status of the rezoning for the Safeway site on West 10th Ave. They will provide a summary of community feedback received on the preliminary plans that were released by the developer, Bentall GreenOak, in late May and early June. They will also lead a discussion on what sort of development is needed to add housing choice, community vitality, community services and economic prosperity for local businesses. Finally, possible action items to be taken by the Community Association will be discussed.

About the presenters

Jean Baird

Baird is founder and Chair of Friends of Point Grey Village. She holds a PhD in literature and has worked as professor, editor and researcher. She has extensive experience with national campaigns. She spearheaded BC BookWorks, which successfully lobbied the Ministry of Education to mandate Canadian literature in BC high schools. Baird is married to George Bowering, Canada’s first poet laureate.

Christina DeMarco

DeMarco is the former lead planner for the Metro Vancouver Regional Growth Strategy. Prior to working with Metro Vancouver she was a City of Vancouver planner and her main projects included CityPlan (1995) and the City’s Transportation Plan (1997). She also worked in Australia for 10 years on the metropolitan plans for Sydney, Canberra and Perth. DeMarco is a co-author of three planning books, including one titled On a Human Scale: A Life in City Design. She is semi-retired, teaches regional planning at the SFU City Program and also does voluntary sector planning work, including as a member of Friends of Point Grey Village, and housing projects for non-profit groups.
